I have two main solo role-play games, one on my phone (I use obsidian), that follows the story of Salem, a moody (kind of mean actually) gravedigger. And one that lives in a notebook, about Myrrha, one of the last survivors of a fallen order of knights. Today I want to talk about Myrrha because she just got an upgrade after I ignored her for months (sorry baby girl).
You see, first she lived in one of those A6 "field notes" notebooks. It was nice but it filled up very quickly. Then I bought an A5 binder, thinking this would be perfect, very modular and practical. I put some rules in it, updated the character sheet, but then I never really used it. The rings were too small, I still needed to take the rulebook with me everywhere, it was just annoying. But I love her, I love her story. It's kind of a romantasy with two hot brothers that may or may not look like Josh O'Connor and Adam Driver in my head. So I have that incentive to find a solution, you know... To be clear the hot brothers are not hooking up with each other, I feel like the way I wrote that wasn't clear... Right now no one is hooking up with anyone actually.
As this spring I've been playing Four Against Darkness in a cheap notebook, and I've been liking it a lot, I thought I would do the same for Myrrha, and last week I ordered a big fat notebook from a website I should not be using but I could not find anything I liked in stores. Now, after spending a few days preparing it all, I just want to show people, ok ? You don't have to understand, just say "wow that's cool !" and I'll be happy (though I can absolutely explain and would be even happier).
Just like I explained in my "On Solo Role-Playing Games" entry, I am using Brigandine as my base system (for character stats, magic, basic rpg stuff), then Mythic GME to answer any plot or worldbuilding questions and structure scenes. And also a bunch of tables that comes from god knows where. BUT I have discovered two new tools that make NPCs so much better (and since my characters talk more than they kill stuff, it's very useful). First is the Triple-O system, that is describe as a "player character emulator" it really adds a little something-something to the social interactions, I like it a lot. Then there's Crimson Thread that adds a bunch of rules for romances. It helps keep track of tension, it makes your love interest(s) a little bit more unpredictable, and it has a spice stat so you know it's good.
All that to say that I am really excited to get back into this game! On the right are pictures of the new setup. What I'm missing is medieval themes stickers everywhere.
I had to write a little "previously" to start things off. It was a bit long, but I think necessary to remember everything that happened.
Myrrha's character sheet
A list of the characters I've met so far. I used to play in french, but decided to write in english now, so I was not sure how to deal with character's names. In the end some are translated but most are not, because, I felt like it.
Arlo and Iago, the hot brothers. I'll let you guess who has who's face.
In Mythic, threads are like, stuff that are happening in the story, plot things, mysteries, it's nice to keep track of them.
Ideas I had for laters or stuff I know but that my characters don't.
The start of the first scene in this new chapter of Myrrha's story! Hope she doesn't die.
Some of the rules at the back of the notebook. I did a lot of formating, cutting and gluing but now I don't need to take anything else with me, just this notebook and some dice.
The main tool I use. But now that I think about it I'm not sure it's the original Mythic GME table, I think I modified it to fit more with my basic rpg system. I don't remember to be honest... But it works great !
